Coaching achievements:

I have been teaching English alongside my studies here in Taiwan in schools and private institutions for over a decade now to great academic success from many of my students.

Under my guidance, students were able to attain TOEIC scores of 940 / 950 / 975 when they were only in the 9th grade.

What can Chris help you with?

Through my expertise in accessibly bridging that vast divide between languages forstudents due to my mastery of both English and Chinese, I understand the many challenges and obstacles that students from a Chinese language base face. Learning a new language so different like English is very much having to train a whole new way of thinking for yourself.

I am able to help you learn English through understanding this new logic rather than through memorizing words and grammar.

Who is Chris?

My name is Chris. I was born in the U.S. but grew up in Canada, completing my K-12 education across both places. Through these experiences, I became highly adept in helping new students navigate through many of their obstacles in learning English and I am particularly skilled at deconstructing the English language in a logical and accessible manner for ESL students of a different language background.

You’ll find that I have a very wide range of interests and hobbies and am fun and easy to talk to!

Professional experiences:

While in high school in the U.S., I graduated one year early in my 11th year as an honors student with Advanced Placement in multiple subjects, including English. For my undergraduate, I was in Japan to broaden horizons and learn the language while dabbling in international business for a few years before coming to Taiwan and acquiring a medical sociology degree at Kaohsiung Medical University.

Afterwards, I received my master’s degree in English Teaching (TESOL) at National Kaohsiung Normal University.

Special experiences:

I have taught English to every age group possible: from ages 2-65+. This includes elementary, junior high, high school, college, and working-class adults.

My greatest strength in teaching English is a native fluency in both English and Chinese, along with additional complementary language proficiencies in Japanese and Taiwanese.

This has granted me a keen understanding of differences in nuance between languages over many years. I utilized these perspectives to great effect in my master’s thesis, through which I experimented with specialized English teaching models across a 10-hour supplementary course administered to two classes of 10th grade students at Kaohsiung Municipal Senior High School and Siaogang Municipal Senior High School.

The results of this study were highly promising: 94% of students enjoyed the supplementary class, 96% of students felt that they learned something new and different, and 70% of students wished to continue the curriculum if possible.
