[Scored 655 on new GMAT] The Power of 1-on-1 GMAT Tutoring Courses: My Score went from 585 to 655, way more than my expectations
Student sharing experience with Tutor Candice & David
[Background] Accounting
[GMAT Experience] Attended large GMAT prep class when taking the 2nd-time GMAT test, and a total of 4 tests taken
– August 2021: First time 620 (old GMAT format, self-study)
– November 2021: Second time 630 (old GMAT format, after attending GMAT prep classes
– 2023: Third time scored 585 (New GMAT format, equivalent to 620 in the old format)
– July 2024: Fourth time scored 655 (New format, equivalent to 710 in the old format, after six months of tutoring with Candice)
I’m thrilled that after experiencing both the old and new GMAT tests,
I finally achieved a solid GMAT score with the help of Candice and David.

GMAT Math Preparation:
Although the GMAT math section is at about high-school level, and people can usually handle the questions,
it is still challenging to achieve a high score. The test requires not only mathematical ability but also English and logical skills.
Tutor Candice asked me to do intensive practice covering a wide range of difficulty levels and topics
so that I was able to enhance my speed and ability to solve unfamiliar problems during the actual test.
I think this is crucial for many Asian students seeking high scores in math.
In addition, weekly mock tests at the last stage of the course design helped me develop a stable pattern for taking tests and an open mind to face my scores.
This calm mindset influenced my performance on the official test positively.
Last and most importantly, meeting Candice at the weekly session helped mentor my GMAT preparation regularly.
I realized that I am the kind of person who needs supervision to execute.
And once I have someone who checks in with me, I perform better than usual expectations.
Thus, Candice’s weekly courses bolstered me to stay on track with my study plan and allowed me to build a consistent pattern with a positive mindset toward the test.
Eventually, I made only one mistake out of 21 questions on the math section.
I sincerely appreciate her help so that I can achieve a high score in math.
GMAT Verbal Preparation:
Tutor David provided invaluable support in the verbal section,
teaching me skills of answering CR questions and looking for key information from long and complex paragraphs in RC.
Since I didn’t put as much effort into the verbal section as I did in math,
without practicing enough questions, my verbal score wasn’t very high but around the 70th percentile.
However, after following David’s tips in answering CR questions during the official test,
my accuracy rate was noticeably higher than my previous tests. (My past verbal scores were around the 50th percentile.)
David was always dedicated to explaining every question in class. I feel grateful for his help in the verbal section,
improving my accuracy in CR questions, and increasing about 20 percentile in my latest verbal score.
Thanks to Candice for their customized tutoring courses and effort in teaching,
I achieved a total score in the 93rd percentile across all three sections and successfully reached a high score on the GMAT!
